Director: Tom Mott

Coach Mott just completed his 16th season as a high school coach compiling a 325-170 record during his time at Mission Prep and St. Joseph High School.  He has also won 4 CIF titles and sent 20+ players to play at the college level.

Mott has also coached professionally in the ABA with the Miami Tropics and has put on basketball clinics around the world in such places as Senegal, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Hungary and South Africa.  Mott also established the 1 Dream Elite Basketball Camp and Coaching Clinic in Shenzhen China in 2012 and this summer the Clinic will celebrate their 6th Anniversary.  Mott is also an accredited USA Basketball Gold Level Coach. 

Director of Coaching and Player Development: Garrett Wood

Garrett Wood has been coaching and training youth, high school, and college basketball players for the past 10 years. Coach Wood was a local high school standout who played for 4x CIF Champion, Tom Mott at Mission Prep. He led his Mission Prep team to back to back CIF Championship appearances in 2003 & 2004. A CIF Champion, All Area Selection, and a 2004 McDonalds All American Nominee rounded out Coach Wood’s high school playing career and soon thereafter would see him play at the college level at Allan Hancock College, & Yavapai College in Arizona. Coach Wood reunited with his former high school coach Tom Mott as an Assistant Boys Varsity Coach at St Joseph High School in 2009 and has been there coaching alongside Mott for the past 9 seasons. Coach Wood helped lead the St. Joseph boys team to a 2016 CIF Championship and helped develop multiple current college players at both the Division I + II level. Coach Wood has assisted in youth camps locally for years and has also been directing basketball camps for ‘One Dream Elite’ over the past 6 years in China and has operated out of multiple cities including Shenzhen, Wuhan, & Foshan, in addition to a spring time coaching position with Cap City basketball in New Hampshire. Coach Wood currently trains and coaches players of all skill levels and has a tremendous amount of coaching experience.

Director of Marketing and Youth Coach:  Austin Cowger

Coach Cowger is a graduate of St. Joseph High School where he played basketball and football.  Cowger has also served as the head coach of the St. Joseph Sophomore team and as a clinic coach at the 1 Dream Elite Basketball Camp in Shenzhen, China for the past two years. 

Andrew Scmalbach: Director of Social Media

Andrew Schmalbach is a Central Coast native and St. Joseph High School alumnus. As a four-year varsity player, Andrew was a CIF Champion, 3x League Champion, 2x League MVP and 2x All-CIF selection.  Senior year, he was a top-ten scorer in California, Santa Barbara County Player of the Year, LCCN All-Area MVP, McDonald's All-American Nominee, and finished as St. Joseph High School's all-time leading scorer.  Andrew earned a scholarship to Westmont College, where he was a four-year starter, tallied over 1,000 points and ended his career as one of the school's all-time leading three-point shooters. Since then, Andrew has helped coach at the high school level and assists in basketball camps in California and China.  He enjoys utilizing his basketball experiences and knowledge to help players who want to compete and take their game to the next level. In addition to coaching for 1Dream, Andrew will be Director of Social Media.  For the past 4 years, Andrew has worked with companies and small brands creating content and developing strategies to help maximize growth and exposure online via social media. 

Eli Burk: Director of Junior High Programs & Tournaments

Since joining the 1 Dream Hoops staff, Coach Eli Burk has been in charge of running 8th grade boys and girls tournaments, and served as a clinic coach for the 2018 1 Dream Elite camp in Shenzhen, China. Burk currently coaches freshmen boys basketball at St. Joseph High School in Santa Maria, California and has coached with multiple AAU programs in San Luis Obispo and northern Santa Barbara Counties.

He received his bachelors degree in Community Sports Management from Arizona State University in 2017. While at Arizona State, Burk would come back to California during the summer and work youth camps for the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Men’s Basketball program, and served as the Director of Operations for University of Portland assistant coach Bob Cantu’s 21st Annual Bob Cantu Basketball Camps. Burk currently resides in Pismo Beach, California where he enjoys spending his free time with family and friends.
